What is CSA.

Community Support Agriculture (CSA) is a mutual agreement between the farmer and the consumer for the growing season. CSA came into existence following increasing consumer concerns for the environment, health & quality of commercial vegetable growing methods. Through CSA partnership, the consumer supports the farmer by sharing the financial risks while enabling the produce to be grown through Organic and Ecological practices locally. In return, the farmer provides the consumer with local and fresh produce throughout the season.

How does it work?

The customer fills out an application form and purchases a “share” or “membership” at the start of the season. Pick up arrangements can be negotiated with the farmer.  Delivery is available for an additional fee, provided it is within the driving range of the farmer. The application form acts as the “agreement” between the farmer and the customer. The customer agrees to pay for the share upfront and the farmer agrees to supply the customer with a weekly basket of fresh vegetables for a 20 weeks period. In autumn the members get an additional “thank you” basket of the fall produce.

The season runs from late May/early June; to October of the year. Each weekly basket can be expected to contain between 8 and 10 items, depending on the production level during the season. CSA members have a choice of veggies and herbs for their basket.  ( Note: The volume supplied may vary between the seasons. Crops are modest in spring, at their peak during summer and average in autumn.)
